KXT 1232 with Voice Mail software upgrade

General Information

Manufacturer: Panasonic

Model: KXT

Software Version: KXT1232 11D - 3 -- Dated April 8, 1993 or higher

Hardware Requirements: Older systems may require upgraded ROM chips on KXT CPU board to use advanced features.

Important phone system software note

If the advanced voice mail software is not installed or desired, the VoiceTrak mailboxes should be configured for supervised transfers (R mailboxes). Message waiting lights don't work with VoiceTrak unless the phone system software upgrade is installed.

VoiceTrak Parameter Settings:

Custom Page 2 Message Light On 701E#
Custom Page 2 Message Light Off 702E#

Important: All other VoiceTrak parameters must be set to Default.

Use Tone/Cadence file: PAN1232D.KXT

The VOICE.BAT file must contain the line: SET PBXTYPE=KXTD3

Notes

Transfer to fax machine. The tone table includes incoming fax detection. You may add an "X" type mailbox which transfers to a fax machine. Also add a line to the VOICE.BAT file which says: 'SET FAX_BOX=xxx' where xxx is mailbox for the fax machine. Not all fax machines send good CNG tones and will not transfer, but if fax tones are detected, the call will transfer to the extension specified in the FAX_BOX setting.

VoiceTrak has been tested with both supervised and unsupervised transfers. The unsupervised system is superior but requires 3D software from Panasonic. This software is also necessary for message waiting lights to function properly. The advanced software provides a disconnect signal and allows station forwarding directly to a voice mail box.

Verify the proper KXT1232 software level!

Program 98 - shows the software version in the following format:

Y201N931231A

The underlined numbers indicate the date. Our example shows December 31, 1993.

Panasonic indicates that the software production date must be April 8, 1993 or later. If your software is older than this date, contact Panasonic for a newer version of the software. The number for Panasonic Technical Support is 201/392-4843.

Balance DTMF Receivers

We've been told the extension cards have only 2 DTMF receivers. If a busy VoiceTrak has 4 ports on one extension card, it's possible to run out of DTMF receivers and the system will not operate properly. It may be better to assign two VoiceTrak ports on one extension card and two VoiceTrak ports on a different extension card.

Phone System Programming

Program 47 & 48 - Not recommended by Panasonic. Can cause all VT ports to ring on an incoming call.

Program 51 - Day CO Mode - Set for DIL - (Recommended by Panasonic)

Program 52 - Night CO Mode - Set for DIL - (Recommended by Panasonic)

Program 80 - Identify the VoiceTrak ports as voice mail ports

Program 81 - Enable DTMF integration (9/94+ versions may need to be disabled)

Program 60 - Put the VoiceTrak ports into one extension group

Program 8 - Enable hunting for the VoiceTrak extension group

Program 9 - Set the VoiceTrak extension group for circular hunting

Disable call waiting tones

Temporarily connect a test set or single line phone to each voice mail port. Go off hook and dial 7301#. This enables data line security and prevents the phone system from sending call waiting tones to the voice mail ports.

Enable trailing digits

Go to each phone extension which will have a voice mail box.

Go off-hook and dial 7192# from each phone.

This enables the trailing digit sequence of '#6+extension number' which instructs VoiceTrak to place a caller directly into the mailbox for that phone extension.

Note: The code 7190# disables call forwarding for an extension. Also note that the code 7191# sends the extension number without the '#6' and should never be used.

Each system user controls actual forwarding from their telephone

The individual system user can now forward their phone to voice mail on a Busy/No Answer basis or All Call Forward basis. See the KXT1232 user guide for information on forwarding telephones.

Forward codes are: 0 to Cancel, 1 for All Call Forward, 2 for Busy/No Answer Forward. Option 2 is best for voice mail.

To forward, use this procedure: "Fwd/DND" "2" "Last VoiceTrak Extension" "#"

Note that "Last VoiceTrak Extension" was suggested by Panasonic tech support. If ports 129 - 132 are used for the VoiceTrak ports, forward the calls to 132 rather than 129 to reduce the possibility of a camp-on situation. (This could also introduce a problem with call collision on MWL codes, so it may be better to use the next-to-last port.)

VoiceTrak Programming

Two changes are necessary for VoiceTrak to operate properly. Also note that VoiceTrak version 2.31 or higher must be used.

The VOICE.BAT file must contain the line: SET PBXTYPE=KXTD3

The Setup/Global parameter screen includes the parameter 'Off Hook Delay'. The Off Hook Delay parameter must be changed to 20 instead of the default of 50.

Panasonic Notes

Forwarded phone can't be a member of a hunt group.

Note that KXT insertion code should be "#6E" and disconnect code should be "#9". These should be verified with a digitgrabber by the technician. Also note that an alternate setting can cause just a "E" to be sent! You must select either the "E" or "#6E" versions! The VP150 uses "#6E".
